Sheep Placenta Shots

sheep placenta element

I was in a crappy hotel room in Hangzhou, China last week for this party at a bar called Joy Luck Club. The morning after the party, woke up with a fuzzy head and looked at the mini-bar in the room to see what might un-fuzz my head. Coca-cola, 7-up, hmm, how about this little bottle of ... "SHEEP PLANCENT ELEMENT" [sic] (羊胎素精华口服液).

What?

Bad spelling. They mean to say Sheep Placenta. It's a brand called Boss Forest from Australia. It has a jumpy kangaroo on the logo, and a happy little lamb cartoon guy on the bottom. Says it's good for skin, anti-aging, repairing damaged cells, and improving organ functions. Which organ, hmm?

Only 15 RMB (about 2 USD).

I drank it up in two quick swigs. Like taking a shot of liquor, but instead of burning the throat, it was coated in sweet, herbal syrup, kinda like Jagermeister. It gave me the little sugar rush I needed to get up and moving. Did it help my skin? My fuzzy head? You decide:

Honestly, we miss out here in Australia. All our fabulous food gets exported right from under our noses: abalone; blue fin tuna; wild boar; sheep placenta.

Gross. I've seen horse placenta conditioner at dollar stores in America, but I can't imagine consuming it.

In Shanghai over the weekend, I accidentally tried a dumpling that people were drinking out of straws. I looked at the outside window after leaving the restaurant and noticed that I'd eaten a dumpling filled with "the digestive juices and ovary of crab."

Yum.

I found a little philipino place in Garden Grove CA that made me a quail egg and greasy noodle salad...The dozens of little eggs popped when I 'et 'em.

Wow, this is totally ridiculous. I have heard of Sheep placenta coming in pills but not in shots. I've also heard of creams, like for your face to prevent the signs of aging. I personally cannot imagine rubbing the disgusting after-birth covering all over my face, but then again I can't really say I'd like to drink it either. My question is, why is there so much fuss about it being genuinely Australian? It can't be an American sheep? Those don't provide the benefits and nutrients of the Australian ones?
